Georgia Surveys for Land Lottery, 1832 Gettysburg, Pa. May 1, 1832 CONCERNING LAND LOTTERY SURVEY The Georgia Surveyors of the Cherokee lands assembled in Milledgeville, in pursuance of the proclamation of the Governor of that State, on the 2d inst. In order to proceed in the survey forthwith. Much apprehension exists with regard to the laws of Georgia, in relation to those lands and her lottery act. It is supposed by many that entire divestiture follows its enforcement. That act reserves to the Indians the possession of their improvements and of the entire tracts on which such improvements are made. No grant can issued for any tract or tracts upon which Indian residences are found, or on which Indian improvements have been made, until the said Indians or their descendants have abandoned the same. Any person or persons who shall by threats, menaces or violence, remove or attempt to remove, any Indian or descendant of an Indian from their residences or improvements, or attempt to take possession of any tracts cultivated by them, are made to forfeit their right to a grant for the same, if even the drawer of such tracts, which in such case reverts to the State.
